Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Northern Tasmania Region in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($1,643 million or 28.3%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing ($1,182 million or 20.3%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($803 million or 13.8%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $3,628 million in total or 62.4% of the total imports by industry in the the Northern Tasmania Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 19.3% in Manufacturing; 15.4% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and 13.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between total imports by industries of the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (28.3% compared to 19.3%)
  • A larger percentage of total imports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (20.3% compared to 15.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Public Administration and Safety (0.8% compared to 5.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (1.0% compared to 4.4%)

The total total imports by industry in the Northern Tasmania Region increased by $197 million between 2013/14 and 2018/19.

The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2013/14 and 2018/19 in the Northern Tasmania Region were for:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$447 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$160 million)
  • Information Media and Telecommunications (+$49 million)
  • Other Services (+$44 million)
