Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the Northern Tasmania Region in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($1,491million or 18.9%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($880million or 11.1%)
  • Manufacturing ($599million or 7.6%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $2,970 million in total or 37.5% of the total local sales by total industry in the the Northern Tasmania Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 23.0% in Construction; 8.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 6.7% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania were:

  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Construction (18.9% compared to 23.0%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Health Care and Social Assistance (11.1% compared to 8.8%)
