The NSROC (Northern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils) Region is located to the north of the Sydney CBD. The NSROC Region encompasses Hornsby Shire, the Hunters Hill Municipality, the Ku-ring-gai Council area, the Lane Cove Council area, the Mosman Council area, the North Sydney Council area, the City of Ryde and Willoughby City. The NSROC Region is a rural and residential area, with some commercial and industrial areas. The Region includes national parks, waterways and parklands.
Key employment sectors in the NSROC Region include professional scientific and technical services, health care, education and training, retail trade, construction, wholesale trade and manufacturing. The main health care facilities in the Region are Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital (public hospitals) and North Shore Private Hospital, Sydney Adventist Hospital (The SAN) and The Mater Hospital (private hospitals). The Region also has numerous smaller health facilities, including Castlecrag Private Hospital, HammondCare Greenwich Hospital, Hirondelle Private Hospital, Hunters Hill Private Hospital, Lady Davidson Private Hospital, Longueville Private Hospital, Macquarie Hospital, Macquarie University Hospital, Mosman Private Hospital, Mt Wilga Private Rehabilitation Hospital, Neringah Hospital (Wahroonga), Royal Rehabilitation Centre and Ryde Hospital. The NSROC Region features four tertiary institutions: TAFE NSW Northern Sydney Institute (Bradfield Senior, Hornsby, Meadowbank, Ryde and St Leonards Colleges), The Northern Sydney Institute (Crows Nest Campus), Macquarie University and Australian Catholic University (North Sydney - MacKillop Campus). Other educational facilities include Morling College (Baptist Bible & Theological College), Brush Farm Corrective Services Academy, and numerous primary and secondary schools. The major retail centres in the Region are the Chatswood CBD (including Chatswood Chase Shopping Centre, Westfield Chatswood Shopping Centre, Metro Chatswood and Chatswood Central), the North Sydney CBD (including Greenwood Plaza), Westfield Hornsby Shopping Centre, Macquarie Centre (shopping centre) and Top Ryde City (shopping centre). Smaller retail centres include Appletree Shopping Centre, Artarmon Home HQ, Beecroft Market Place, Berowra Marketplace, Berowra Village, Big Bear Shopping Centre, Bradfield Plaza, Bridgepoint Shopping Centre, Cherrybrook Village, Cremorne Arcade, Cremorne Plaza, Eastwood Plaza, Eastwood Shopping Centre, Eden Park Shopping Centre, Fox Valley Village, Galston Village, Gladesville Shopping Village, Gordon Centre, Gordon Village Arcade, Hornsby Mall, Lane Cove Market Square, Lane Cove Plaza, Neutral Bay Village, Northbridge Plaza, Northbridge Village, Oakhill Village, Pennant Hills Market Place, Quadrangle Shopping Village, St Ives Chase, St Ives Village, Stockland Cammeray, Thornleigh Marketplace, Village Plaza Shepherds Bay, Wahroonga Village, Waverton Village, West Gordon Shopping Centre, West Pymble Shopping Centre, West Ryde Marketplace and Westleigh Village, and retail areas in Artarmon, Cammeray, Crows Nest, Gladesville, Neutral Bay and Mosman. The main industrial areas are located in the suburbs of Artarmon, Asquith, Chatswood, Dural, Gladesville, Greenwich, Hornsby, Lane Cove West, Macquarie Park, Meadowbank, Mount Kuring-gai, North Ryde, Ryde, St Leonards, Thornleigh, and West Ryde, with naval bases at Mosman and Waverton.
