Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in NSROC Region in 2016/17 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (17,193 people or 21.9%)
  • Construction (12,862 people or 16.4%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (8,899 people or 11.3%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $38,955 million in total or 49.5% of the total local sales by total industry in the NSROC Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in New South Wales accounted for 20.0% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services; 17.2% in Construction; and 8.1% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between local sales by industries in the NSROC Region and New South Wales were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Information Media and Telecommunications (7.4% compared to 3.5%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (11.3% compared to 8.1%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (21.9% compared to 20.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Manufacturing (4.1% compared to 5.9%)

The total local sales by industry in the NSROC Region increased by $9,851.9 million between 2011/12 and 2016/17.

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2011/12 and 2016/17 in the NSROC Region were for:

  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (+$4,558 million)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$1,491 million)
  • Information Media and Telecommunications (+$1,449 million)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+$811 million)
