Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the South West RED Region in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Mining (2,124 million or 63.3%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (761 million or 22.7%)
  • Manufacturing (112 million or 3.3%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 2,997 million in total or 89.3% of the total exports by industry in the the South West RED Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 27.1% in Mining; 5.4% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and 15.2% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of the South West RED Region and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Mining (63.3% compared to 27.1%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (22.7% compared to 5.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (3.3% compared to 15.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (1.4% compared to 9.9%)

Emerging groups

The total total exports by industry in the South West RED Region $increased by 1,800 million between 2013/14 and 2018/19.

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2013/14 and 2018/19 in the South West RED Region were for:

  • Mining (+$1,948 million)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+$17 million)
  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (+$14 million)
  • Manufacturing (+$12 million)
