Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Southern Downs Regional Council area in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($826 million or 29.7%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($297 million or 10.7%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($245 million or 8.8%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $1,368 million in total or 49.2% of the total imports by industry in the the Southern Downs Regional Council area.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 33.3% in Manufacturing; 7.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services and 8.3% in Financial and Insurance Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the Southern Downs Regional Council area and Queensland were:
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (3.8% compared to 9.1%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (8.5% compared to 4.2%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (29.7% compared to 33.3%)

- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$109 million)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+$80 million)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$46 million)
