Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the South West RED Region in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($456million or 23.9%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($171million or 9.0%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing ($167million or 8.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $795 million in total or 41.6% of the total local sales by total industry in the the South West RED Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 20.2% in Construction; 6.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 2.1% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the South West RED Region and Queensland were:

  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (5.6% compared to 14.0%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (8.7% compared to 2.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2.6% compared to 7.0%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (23.9% compared to 20.2%)

The total local sales by industry in the South West RED Region $decreased by -1,131 million between 2013/14 and 2018/19.

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2013/14 and 2018/19 in the South West RED Region were for:

  • Construction (-$1,171 million)
  • Manufacturing (-$96 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$67 million)
  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (+$44 million)
