Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in South West RED Region in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction (469 people or 21.4%)
  • Mining (335 people or 15.3%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (170 people or 7.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $974 million in total or 44.4% of the total local sales by total industry in South West RED Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional QLD accounted for 20.2% in Construction; 4.2% in Mining; and 3.2% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The major differences between local sales by industries in South West RED Region and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Mining (15.3% compared to 4.2%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (7.7% compared to 3.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (6.0% compared to 14.5%)
