Output by industry is a gross measure of the total sales of each industry sector in the RDA Kimberley. It does not measure how productive each industry sector is at producing this output - which is measured by value added.
By comparing the output of each industry sector to a regional benchmark, you can clearly see the structure of the RDA Kimberley’s economy. This can be done by directly comparing the percentage contribution of each industry to the total output, relative to the benchmark, or by using a location quotient, where a number greater than one indicates a high concentration of that industry and less than one indicates a lower concentration.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the output by industry sectors in the RDA Kimberley in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Mining ($5,992 million or 57.5%)
- Construction ($829 million or 8.0%)
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing ($715 million or 6.9%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $7,536 million in total or 72.3% of the total output by total industry in the the RDA Kimberley.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional WA accounted for 69.0% in Mining; 7.3% in Construction and 5.5% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.
The major differences between output by industries of the RDA Kimberley and Regional WA were:
- A smaller percentage of output by Mining (57.5% compared to 69.0%)
- A smaller percentage of output by Manufacturing (1.0% compared to 6.9%)
- A larger percentage of output by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (4.7% compared to 1.7%)
- A larger percentage of output by Health Care and Social Assistance (3.9% compared to 1.2%)
