Dominant groups
An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the RDA MBSC in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing (2,991 million or 20.3%)
- Financial and Insurance Services (1,218 million or 8.3%)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (1,165 million or 7.9%)
In combination these three industries accounted for 5,374 million in total or 36.5% of the total exports by industry in the the RDA MBSC.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional QLD accounted for 11.7% in Manufacturing; 1.1% in Financial and Insurance Services and 6.1% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.
The major differences between the total exports by industries of the RDA MBSC and Regional QLD were:
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (6.4% compared to 48.8%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (20.3% compared to 11.7%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Financial and Insurance Services (8.3% compared to 1.1%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Retail Trade (7.7% compared to 2.0%)

The total total exports by industry in the RDA MBSC $increased by 6,164 million between 2008/09 and 2022/23.
The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2008/09 and 2022/23 in the RDA MBSC were for:
- Financial and Insurance Services (+$950 million)
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$841 million)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+$798 million)
- Manufacturing (+$728 million)
