Resident workers - Industry

Total industries employs more of the RDA MBSC's resident workforce than any other industry sector.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in the RDA MBSC in 2021shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (67,424 people or 16.7%)
  • Construction (45,612 people or 11.3%)
  • Retail Trade (40,306 people or 10.0%)

In combination these three industries employed 153,342 people in total or 38.0% of the total resident workforce.

In comparison, Queensland employed 15.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.1% in Construction and 9.3% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of the RDA MBSC and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Construction (11.3% compared to 9.1%)
  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Health Care and Social Assistance (16.7% compared to 15.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (1.4% compared to 2.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Mining (1.3% compared to 2.3%)

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident workforce between 2016 and 2021 in the RDA MBSC were for those employed in:
