Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in the RDA Sunshine Coast Region in 2021shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (32,209 people or 17.5%)
  • Construction (22,135 people or 12.0%)
  • Retail Trade (18,243 people or 9.9%)

In combination these three industries employed 72,587 people in total or 39.3% of the total resident workforce.

In comparison, Queensland employed 15.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.1% in Construction and 9.3% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of the RDA Sunshine Coast Region and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Construction (12.0% compared to 9.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Public Administration and Safety (3.9% compared to 6.2%)
  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Health Care and Social Assistance (17.5% compared to 15.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Transport, Postal and Warehousing (3.0% compared to 4.7%)

  • Construction (+4,022 resident workforce)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+3,057 resident workforce)
