Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Mid North Region in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing ($372 million or 43.4%)
  • Manufacturing ($312 million or 36.4%)
  • Wholesale Trade ($59 million or 6.8%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $742 million in total or 86.6% of the total exports by total industry in Mid North Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional SA accounted for 33.4% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 27.3% in Manufacturing; and 4.9% in Wholesale Trade.

The major differences between total exports by industries in Mid North Region and Regional SA were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (43.4% compared to 33.4%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (36.4% compared to 27.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (1.5% compared to 14.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (1.2% compared to 4.2%)

Emerging groups

The total exports by industries in Mid North Region decreased by $83.4 million between 2012/13 and 2017/18.

The largest changes in total exports by industries between 2012/13 and 2017/18 in Mid North Region were for:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (-$173 million)
  • Manufacturing (+$94 million)
