An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Southern Flinders Region in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($576 million or 29.9%)
- Mining ($172 million or 8.9%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($166 million or 8.6%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $914 million in total or 47.4% of the total imports by total industry in Southern Flinders Region.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional SA accounted for 29.1% in Manufacturing; 2.8% in Mining; and 10.3% in Financial and Insurance Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries in Southern Flinders Region and Regional SA were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Mining (8.9% compared to 2.8%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (4.0% compared to 7.2%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (8.6% compared to 10.3%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Wholesale Trade (4.4% compared to 5.9%)
The total imports by industries in Southern Flinders Region decreased by $36.1 million between 2012/13 and 2017/18.
