Infrastructure

The City of Salisbury is located in Adelaide's northern suburbs. The City encompasses a total land area of about 160 square kilometres, including an airport, and many parks, reserves, walking trails and wetlands. The City of Salisbury is predominantly a residential area, but also has substantial industrial, commercial and rural areas. Horticultural enterprises (mainly vegetable growing) are located on the western fringes of the urban development. In more recent years Salisbury has become known for its industry, technology and environmental endeavours. It has gained international recognition for developing wetlands technology, especially at Parafield Airport and Edinburgh.

Key employment sectors in the City of Salisbury include manufacturing, public administration and safety, retail trade, education, health care, transport postal and warehousing and construction. Significant manufacturing areas are located throughout the City, particularly in the suburbs of Cavan, Edinburgh, Mawson Lakes and Salisbury South. Industrial areas are also located in the suburbs of Burton, Green Fields, Para Hills West, Parafield Gardens, Pooraka, Salisbury Plain and Walkley Heights, as well as Parafield (airport). The City is home to a military area at the RAAF Base Edinburgh. The major retail centre in the City is the Salisbury Town Centre, which includes Parabanks Shopping Centre and John Street Shopping Precinct. Smaller retail centres include Airport City Parafield, Hollywood Plaza (Salisbury Downs), Ingle Farm Shopping Centre, Martins Plaza (Parafield Gardens), Mawson Central Shopping Centre, Paddocks Shopping Centre (Para Hills West), Para Hills Shopping Centre, Para Vista Shopping Centre, Paralowie Plaza Shopping Centre, Settlers Farm Shopping Centre (Paralowie), Springbank Plaza (Burton), Walkley Heights Shopping Centre and the Pooraka Sunday Market. Educational facilities are provided at the University of South Australia (Mawson Lakes Campus), TAFE SA (Parafield and Salisbury Campuses) and numerous primary and secondary schools. The main health care facility is Calvary Central Districts Hospital, with numerous aged care facilities located in the City.
