In the South West Queensland ROC, Mining had the largest total exports by industry, generating $2,037 million in 2022/23.

Exports by industry are sales of goods and services to non-resident households, businesses and other organisations, outside the South West Queensland ROC boundaries. Exports (domestic) include all exports from the area to other parts of Australia. Exports (international) includes all exports from the Region to countries outside Australia.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the South West Queensland ROC in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Mining (2,037 million or 49.0%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (1,624 million or 39.0%)
  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (148 million or 3.6%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 3,808 million in total or 91.6% of the total exports by industry in the the South West Queensland ROC.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional QLD accounted for 49.2% in Mining; 12.0% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and 2.6% in Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of the South West Queensland ROC and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (39.0% compared to 12.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (2.1% compared to 11.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (0.8% compared to 5.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Health Care and Social Assistance (0.3% compared to 2.3%)

The total total exports by industry in the South West Queensland ROC $increased by 1,774 million between 2008/09 and 2022/23.

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2008/09 and 2022/23 in the South West Queensland ROC were for:

  • Mining (+$1,505 million)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$165 million)
  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (+$139 million)
  • Other Services (+$36 million)
