Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the South West Queensland ROC in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($422million or 19.8%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing ($235million or 11.0%)
  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services ($225million or 10.6%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $882 million in total or 41.4% of the total local sales by total industry in the the South West Queensland ROC.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional QLD accounted for 21.9% in Construction; 3.0% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and 4.0% in Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the South West Queensland ROC and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (11.0% compared to 3.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Mining (2.0% compared to 9.8%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (10.6% compared to 4.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Manufacturing (5.0% compared to 7.1%)

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2008/09 and 2022/23 in the South West Queensland ROC were for:

  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (+$93 million)
