Resident workers - Industry
Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing employs more of the South West RED Region’s resident workforce than any other industry sector.

Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in South West RED Region in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (2,777 people or 23.3%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (1,294 people or 10.8%)
- Public Administration and Safety (1,096 people or 9.2%)
In combination these three industries employed 5,167 people in total or 43.3% of the total resident workforce.
In comparison, Queensland employed 2.8% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 13.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 6.6% in Public Administration and Safety.
The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of the South West RED Region and Queensland were:
- A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (23.3% compared to 2.8%)
- A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Public Administration and Safety (9.2% compared to 6.6%)
- A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2.0% compared to 6.3%)
- A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Manufacturing (3.4% compared to 6.0%)
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident workforce between 2011 and 2016 in the South West RED Region were for those employed in:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (-250 resident workforce)
- Construction (-217 resident workforce)
- Retail Trade (-190 resident workforce)
- Mining (-150 resident workforce)
