Dominant groups
An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the City of Sydney in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:
- Financial and Insurance Services (60,464 million or 41.1%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (30,370 million or 20.6%)
- Information Media and Telecommunications (13,795 million or 9.4%)
In combination these three industries accounted for 104,629 million in total or 71.1% of the total exports by industry in the the City of Sydney.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Sydney accounted for 19.7% in Financial and Insurance Services; 13.2% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services and 9.1% in Information Media and Telecommunications.
The major differences between the total exports by industries of the City of Sydney and Greater Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of total exports by Financial and Insurance Services (41.1% compared to 19.7%)
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (1.3% compared to 13.6%)
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (3.1% compared to 12.2%)
