Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the All industries workforce in the City of Sydney in 2021shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (235,666 local workers or 43.6%)
  • Managers (108,917 local workers or 20.1%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (82,485 local workers or 15.3%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 427,068 people in total or 79.0% of the All industries local workers.

In comparison, New South Wales employed 25.9% as Professionals; 14.6% as Managers and 13.0% as Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the workforce in the City of Sydney and New South Wales were:

  • A larger percentage of local workers employed as Professionals (43.6% compared to 25.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of local workers employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (5.3% compared to 11.8%)
