In Tablelands, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing had the largest total exports by industry, generating $564 million in 2022/23.

Exports by industry are sales of goods and services to non-resident households, businesses and other organisations, outside Tablelands boundaries. Exports (domestic) include all exports from the area to other parts of Australia. Exports (international) includes all exports from the Region to countries outside Australia.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Tablelands in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (564 million or 57.1%)
  • Mining (123 million or 12.5%)
  • Manufacturing (84 million or 8.5%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 771 million in total or 78.0% of the total exports by industry in the Tablelands.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 7.8% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 31.5% in Mining and 15.2% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of Tablelands and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (57.1% compared to 7.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (12.5% compared to 31.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (2.0% compared to 9.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (8.5% compared to 15.2%)

The total total exports by industry in Tablelands $increased by 148 million between 2017/18 and 2022/23.

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in Tablelands were for:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$162 million)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+$26 million)
  • Other Services (+$16 million)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (+$7 million)
