Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Tablelands in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($563 million or 32.6%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($192 million or 11.1%)
  • Wholesale Trade ($116 million or 6.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $871 million in total or 50.4% of the total imports by total industry in Tablelands.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional QLD accounted for 37.4% in Manufacturing; 10.6% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 4.8% in Wholesale Trade.

The major differences between total imports by industries in Tablelands and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Accommodation and Food Services (5.3% compared to 2.8%)
  • A larger percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (6.6% compared to 4.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (32.6% compared to 37.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (6.0% compared to 7.9%)

The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2012/13 and 2017/18 in Tablelands were for:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$66 million)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+$55 million)
