Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Tasmania in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($9,899 million or 28.8%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($2,923 million or 8.5%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($2,454 million or 7.1%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $15,275 million in total or 44.4% of the total imports by industry in the Tasmania.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Hobart accounted for 30.2% in Manufacturing; 7.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 6.5% in Financial and Insurance Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries of Tasmania and Greater Hobart were:

  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (6.4% compared to 8.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (28.8% compared to 30.2%)
