Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in North West Tasmania in 2021shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (7,795 people or 15.6%)
  • Retail Trade (5,157 people or 10.3%)
  • Education and Training (4,177 people or 8.3%)

In combination these three industries employed 17,129 people in total or 34.2% of the total resident workforce.

In comparison, Tasmania employed 16.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.6% in Retail Trade and 9.4% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of North West Tasmania and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (8.2% compared to 5.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Public Administration and Safety (4.7% compared to 7.3%)
  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Mining (3.4% compared to 1.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (3.1% compared to 5.1%)
