In 2021, there were 7,478 people who caught public transport to work (train, bus, tram or ferry) in Tasmania, compared with 171,415 who drove in private vehicles (car – as driver, car – as passenger, motorbike, or truck).

Analysis of the method of travel to work in Tasmania in 2021 compared to the Tasmania workforce within Tasmania shows that 3.1% used public transport, while 71.3% used a private vehicle, compared with 3.0% and 71.5% respectively in Tasmania.

The major differences between the method of travel to work of the workforce in Tasmania and the Tasmania workforce were:
