Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Whitsunday in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Mining (1,167 million or 47.2%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (629 million or 25.5%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (224 million or 9.1%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 2,020 million in total or 81.8% of the total exports by industry in the Whitsunday.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 22.7% in Mining; 9.4% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and 8.8% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of Whitsunday and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Mining (47.2% compared to 22.7%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (25.5% compared to 9.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (3.8% compared to 16.5%)
