Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Whitsunday in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($925 million or 33.5%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($337 million or 12.2%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($315 million or 11.4%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $1,577 million in total or 57.2% of the total imports by industry in the Whitsunday.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 34.9% in Manufacturing; 9.7% in Financial and Insurance Services and 7.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of Whitsunday and Queensland were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (11.4% compared to 7.7%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (1.8% compared to 5.3%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (3.0% compared to 5.8%)
