Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Yass Valley in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($335 million or 28.2%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($127 million or 10.7%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($127 million or 10.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $588 million in total or 49.5% of the total imports by industry in the the Yass Valley.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in New South Wales accounted for 31.7% in Manufacturing; 8.2% in Financial and Insurance Services and 4.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between total imports by industries of the Yass Valley and New South Wales were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (10.7% compared to 4.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (2.4% compared to 8.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2.2% compared to 6.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (28.2% compared to 31.7%)

The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in the Yass Valley were for:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$26 million)

  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$17 million)
