Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Clarence Valley in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($748 million or 31.1%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($286 million or 11.9%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance ($199 million or 8.3%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $1,232 million in total or 51.2% of the total imports by industry in the the Clarence Valley.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in NSW accounted for 31.7% in Manufacturing; 8.2% in Financial and Insurance Services and 4.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the Clarence Valley and NSW were:
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (3.8% compared to 8.3%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (8.3% compared to 4.3%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (11.9% compared to 8.2%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Wholesale Trade (5.6% compared to 3.4%)

The total total imports by industry in the Clarence Valley increased by $133 million between 2017/18 and 2022/23.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in the Clarence Valley were for:
- Manufacturing (+$69 million)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$50 million)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+$32 million)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$31 million)
