Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Surat Basin in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($4,759 million or 27.9%)
  • Mining ($2,775 million or 16.3%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($1,752 million or 10.3%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $9,286 million in total or 54.5% of the total imports by industry in the Surat Basin.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 33.3% in Manufacturing; 9.1% in Mining and 8.3% in Financial and Insurance Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries of Surat Basin and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Mining (16.3% compared to 9.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (27.9% compared to 33.3%)
  • A larger percentage of total imports by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (9.9% compared to 7.7%)
