Value added by industry is an indicator of business productivity in Perth Inner City Region. It shows how productive each industry sector is at increasing the value of its inputs. It is a more refined measure of the productivity of an industry sector than output (total gross revenue), as some industries have high levels of output but require large amounts of input expenditure to achieve that.

An analysis of the valued added by industry sectors in Perth Inner City Region in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Mining (12,835 million or 22.7%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (9,501 million or 16.8%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (7,879 million or 13.9%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 30,215 million in total or 53.4% of the total value added by industry in the Perth Inner City Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Western Australia accounted for 49.0% in Mining; 4.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services and 3.4% in Financial and Insurance Services.

The major differences between the value added by industries of Perth Inner City Region and Western Australia were:

  • A smaller percentage of value added by Mining (22.7% compared to 49.0%)
  • A larger percentage of value added by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (16.8% compared to 4.8%)
