In the South West Queensland ROC, Mining had the largest total exports by industry, generating $2,197 million in 2021/22.

Exports by industry are sales of goods and services to non-resident households, businesses and other organisations, outside the South West Queensland ROC boundaries. Exports (domestic) include all exports from the area to other parts of Australia. Exports (international) includes all exports from the Region to countries outside Australia.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the South West Queensland ROC in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Mining (2,197 million or 51.5%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (1,504 million or 35.3%)
  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (155 million or 3.6%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 3,856 million in total or 90.5% of the total exports by industry in the the South West Queensland ROC.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 22.7% in Mining; 9.4% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and 4.1% in Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of the South West Queensland ROC and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Mining (51.5% compared to 22.7%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (35.3% compared to 9.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (3.3% compared to 16.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (0.8% compared to 8.8%)

Emerging groups

The total total exports by industry in the South West Queensland ROC $increased by 1,141 million between 2016/17 and 2021/22.

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2016/17 and 2021/22 in the South West Queensland ROC were for:

  • Mining (+$794 million)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$282 million)
  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (+$89 million)
  • Manufacturing (+$41 million)
