Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Northern Midlands Council area in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($373 million or 27.4%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance ($138 million or 10.2%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($137 million or 10.1%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $649 million in total or 47.7% of the total imports by industry in the Northern Midlands Council area.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 28.8% in Manufacturing; 8.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 7.1% in Financial and Insurance Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of Northern Midlands Council area and Tasmania were:
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (3.3% compared to 6.4%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (10.1% compared to 7.1%)
