Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the City of Adelaide in 2020/21 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($2,841 million or 45.4%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing ($588 million or 9.4%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($473 million or 7.6%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $3,901 million in total or 62.3% of the total imports by industry in the the City of Adelaide.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in South Australia accounted for 32.1% in Manufacturing; 5.1% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing and 6.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries of the City of Adelaide and South Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (45.4% compared to 32.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Public Administration and Safety (1.0% compared to 8.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (0.6% compared to 7.2%)
