Dominant groups
An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the City of Adelaide in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Construction ($4,494million or 21.5%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($3,393million or 16.2%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($2,663million or 12.7%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $10,550 million in total or 50.4% of the total local sales by total industry in the the City of Adelaide.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in South Australia accounted for 24.2% in Construction; 6.5% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services and 4.9% in Financial and Insurance Services.
The major differences between local sales by industries of the City of Adelaide and South Australia were:
- A larger percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (16.2% compared to 6.5%)
- A larger percentage of local sales by Financial and Insurance Services (12.7% compared to 4.9%)
- A smaller percentage of local sales by Health Care and Social Assistance (1.4% compared to 7.8%)
- A larger percentage of local sales by Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (10.0% compared to 5.3%)

- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$702 million)
- Financial and Insurance Services (+$578 million)
