Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Cook Shire in 2016/17 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($164 million or 31.3%)
  • Mining ($52 million or 9.9%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($48 million or 9.2%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $263 million in total or 50.5% of the total imports by total industry in the Cook Shire.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 36.1% in Manufacturing; 6.1% in Mining; and 6.4% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries in the Cook Shire and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Mining (9.9% compared to 6.1%)
