Dominant groups
An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the Canberra Region in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Construction ($7,472million or 25.2%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance ($2,464million or 8.3%)
- Manufacturing ($1,950million or 6.6%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $11,886 million in total or 40.1% of the total local sales by total industry in the the Canberra Region.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in NSW accounted for 21.4% in Construction; 6.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 6.5% in Manufacturing.
The major differences between local sales by industries of the Canberra Region and NSW were:
- A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (25.2% compared to 21.4%)
- A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (5.7% compared to 9.5%)
- A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (5.0% compared to 1.4%)
- A smaller percentage of local sales by Financial and Insurance Services (2.4% compared to 5.5%)
