Hume City

Infrastructure

Hume City is located on the north-western fringe of Melbourne. The City encompasses a total land area of about 500 square kilometres. Hume includes rapidly developing residential areas, established urban areas, rural areas, substantial industrial areas, and some commercial land use. The southern parts of the City are well-established urban areas, while the northern and central areas are rural in character. Rural land is used mainly for agriculture.

The key employment sectors are manufacturing, transport and storage, with other significant employment in retail, and to a lesser extent, education and health. The Melbourne Airport is located in Hume, with major industrial areas in Broadmeadows, Campbellfield, Coolaroo, Somerton and Tullamarine. Hume features three major retail areas (Broadmeadows Shopping Centre, Sunbury Town Centre and Pipeworks Fun Market) and a number of other significant centres. Hume has two tertiary institutions (Victoria University and Kangan Batman TAFE) and numerous private and public schools.
