In the RDA MBSC, Manufacturing had the largest total imports by industry, generating $12,085 million in 2022/23.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the RDA MBSC in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($12,085 million or 31.6%)
  • Public Administration and Safety ($4,264 million or 11.2%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($3,112 million or 8.1%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $19,461 million in total or 50.9% of the total imports by industry in the the RDA MBSC.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 33.3% in Manufacturing; 5.4% in Public Administration and Safety and 8.3% in Financial and Insurance Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries of the RDA MBSC and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Public Administration and Safety (11.2% compared to 5.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (4.8% compared to 9.1%)
  • A larger percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (6.2% compared to 4.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (31.6% compared to 33.3%)

The total total imports by industry in the RDA MBSC increased by $4,099 million between 2017/18 and 2022/23.

The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in the RDA MBSC were for:

  • Manufacturing (+$2,174 million)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+$1,030 million)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$685 million)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$490 million)
