Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the RDA MBSC in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($16,704million or 24.2%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($7,223million or 10.5%)
  • Manufacturing ($5,382million or 7.8%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $29,308 million in total or 42.5% of the total local sales by total industry in the the RDA MBSC.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 20.2% in Construction; 7.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 7.7% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the RDA MBSC and Queensland were:

  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Mining (0.6% compared to 5.1%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (24.2% compared to 20.2%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Health Care and Social Assistance (10.5% compared to 7.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (4.8% compared to 6.9%)

Emerging groups

The total local sales by industry in the RDA MBSC $increased by 9,998 million between 2017/18 and 2022/23.

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in the RDA MBSC were for:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$2,165 million)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$842 million)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$822 million)
  • Education and Training (+$795 million)
