Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the South East Queensland in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($64,755 million or 36.7%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($12,014 million or 6.8%)
- Public Administration and Safety ($11,969 million or 6.8%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $88,738 million in total or 50.3% of the total imports by industry in the the South East Queensland.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 33.3% in Manufacturing; 8.3% in Financial and Insurance Services and 5.4% in Public Administration and Safety.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the South East Queensland and Queensland were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (36.7% compared to 33.3%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (6.0% compared to 9.1%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (6.8% compared to 8.3%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (6.2% compared to 7.7%)

The total total imports by industry in the South East Queensland increased by $18,320 million between 2016/17 and 2022/23.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2016/17 and 2022/23 in the South East Queensland were for:
- Manufacturing (+$13,446 million)
- Public Administration and Safety (+$3,340 million)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$3,116 million)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$2,847 million)
