Output by industry is a gross measure of the total sales of each industry sector in Federation Council area. It does not measure how productive each industry sector is at producing this output - which is measured by value added.
By comparing the output of each industry sector to a regional benchmark, you can clearly see the structure of Federation Council area’s economy. This can be done by directly comparing the percentage contribution of each industry to the total output, relative to the benchmark, or by using a location quotient, where a number greater than one indicates a high concentration of that industry and less than one indicates a lower concentration.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the output by industry sectors in Federation Council area in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($634 million or 33.9%)
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing ($507 million or 27.1%)
- Construction ($196 million or 10.5%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $1,336 million in total or 71.5% of the total output by total industry in the Federation Council area.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in NSW accounted for 9.5% in Manufacturing; 2.5% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and 13.4% in Construction.
The major differences between output by industries of Federation Council area and NSW were:
- A larger percentage of output by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (27.1% compared to 2.5%)
- A larger percentage of output by Manufacturing (33.9% compared to 9.5%)
- A smaller percentage of output by Financial and Insurance Services (0.5% compared to 9.0%)
