Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the City of Newcastle in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($4,109 million or 35.4%)
- Mining ($2,205 million or 19.0%)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing ($973 million or 8.4%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $7,287 million in total or 62.8% of the total imports by industry in the the City of Newcastle.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in New South Wales accounted for 31.7% in Manufacturing; 8.3% in Mining and 8.3% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the City of Newcastle and New South Wales were:
