Output by industry is a gross measure of the total sales of each industry sector in Hobart City. It does not measure how productive each industry sector is at producing this output - which is measured by value added.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the output by industry sectors in Hobart City in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance ($2,412 million or 16.5%)
- Public Administration and Safety ($2,134 million or 14.6%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($1,663 million or 11.3%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $6,208 million in total or 42.4% of the total output by total industry in the Hobart City.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 11.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 6.1% in Public Administration and Safety and 5.0% in Financial and Insurance Services.
