Camden Council area
The Camden Council area is located in Sydney's south-western suburbs. The Council area encompasses a total land area of about 200 square kilometres. The Camden Council area is a rapidly growing residential area, with rural, industrial and commercial areas. Rural land is used largely for agriculture.
Key employment sectors in the Camden Council area include retail trade, construction, health care, education and manufacturing. The major retail centre is the Camden Central Business District, with other significant retail areas being Camden Central Shopping Centre, Harrington Plaza Shopping Centre, Mount Annan Central, Mount Annan Shopping Village, Mt Annan Marketplace and Narellan Town Centre. The Council area is home to the Camden District Hospital and Carrington Centennial Hospital (Aged Care Complex). The Camden Council area features The University of Sydney's Animal Reproduction Unit, Plant Breeding Institute and Coates Park Farm, Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute's Belgenny Farm, and numerous schools. The main industrial areas are located in the suburb of Smeaton Grange, the northern part of Narellan, and the eastern part of Spring Farm.
