An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Rockhampton Regional Council area in 2020/21 shows the three largest industries were:
- Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (796 million or 20.6%)
- Manufacturing (698 million or 18.0%)
- Mining (666 million or 17.2%)
In combination these three industries accounted for 2,161 million in total or 55.8% of the total exports by industry in the Rockhampton Regional Council area.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 4.5% in Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services; 16.1% in Manufacturing and 28.6% in Mining.
The major differences between the total exports by industries of Rockhampton Regional Council area and Queensland were:
- A larger percentage of total exports by Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (20.6% compared to 4.5%)
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (17.2% compared to 28.6%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (13.2% compared to 8.0%)
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Public Administration and Safety (1.5% compared to 5.8%)

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2015/16 and 2020/21 in Rockhampton Regional Council area were for:
