Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Cairns in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (677 million or 15.7%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (519 million or 12.1%)
  • Manufacturing (439 million or 10.2%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 1,635 million in total or 38.0% of the total exports by industry in the Cairns.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 8.8% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing; 4.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 16.5% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of Cairns and Queensland were:

  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (7.3% compared to 22.7%)
