Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the Eastern Region in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($15,397million or 19.5%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($7,228million or 9.2%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($6,861million or 8.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $29,485 million in total or 37.4% of the total local sales by total industry in the the Eastern Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Victoria accounted for 22.7% in Construction; 8.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services and 7.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the Eastern Region and Victoria were:

  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Construction (19.5% compared to 22.7%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Health Care and Social Assistance (8.7% compared to 7.1%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Retail Trade (6.4% compared to 5.4%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Wholesale Trade (4.7% compared to 3.8%)

The total local sales by industry in the Eastern Region $increased by 6,722 million between 2017/18 and 2022/23.

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in the Eastern Region were for:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$1,323 million)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$981 million)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$862 million)
  • Information Media and Telecommunications (+$832 million)
