Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Riverina and Murray Region in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($3,663 million or 31.5%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($1,198 million or 10.3%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($949 million or 8.2%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $5,809 million in total or 50.0% of the total imports by industry in the the Riverina and Murray Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in New South Wales accounted for 31.7% in Manufacturing; 8.2% in Financial and Insurance Services and 6.4% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries of the Riverina and Murray Region and New South Wales were:

  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (4.5% compared to 8.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (6.0% compared to 8.3%)
