Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Northern Tasmania Region in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($2,283 million or 29.4%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance ($606 million or 7.8%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($591 million or 7.6%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $3,481 million in total or 44.8% of the total imports by industry in the the Northern Tasmania Region.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 29.4% in Manufacturing; 8.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 8.4% in Financial and Insurance Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Mining (7.2% compared to 5.2%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (7.6% compared to 8.4%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (5.6% compared to 6.4%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Education and Training (2.9% compared to 2.3%)
Emerging groups
The total total imports by industry in the Northern Tasmania Region increased by $1,058 million between 2013/14 and 2018/19.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2013/14 and 2018/19 in the Northern Tasmania Region were for:
- Manufacturing (+$344 million)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+$200 million)
- Wholesale Trade (+$104 million)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$99 million)
