Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Northern Tasmania Region in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($2,309 million or 32.3%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($592 million or 8.3%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($471 million or 6.6%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $3,372 million in total or 47.2% of the total imports by total industry in the Northern Tasmania Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 32.1% in Manufacturing; 8.1% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 7.1% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major difference between total imports by industries in the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania was:

  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (1.6% compared to 2.7%)
