Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Northern Tasmania Region in 2020/21 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($2,804 million or 32.7%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($701 million or 8.2%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($638 million or 7.4%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $4,144 million in total or 48.3% of the total imports by industry in the the Northern Tasmania Region.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 31.7% in Manufacturing; 8.5% in Financial and Insurance Services and 7.4% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Mining (5.6% compared to 3.8%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (7.2% compared to 8.3%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (32.7% compared to 31.7%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (2.9% compared to 3.8%)
Emerging groups
The total total imports by industry in the Northern Tasmania Region increased by $1,528 million between 2015/16 and 2020/21.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2015/16 and 2020/21 in the Northern Tasmania Region were for:
- Manufacturing (+$670 million)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$185 million)
- Financial and Insurance Services (+$166 million)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+$154 million)
