Imports (domestic) includes all imports from other parts of Australia to the Region.Imports (international) includes the value of all imports to the area from outside Australia.

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Northern Tasmania Region in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($2,458 million or 30.8%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($645 million or 8.1%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($595 million or 7.5%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $3,699 million in total or 46.3% of the total imports by industry in the the Northern Tasmania Region.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 29.7% in Manufacturing; 8.4% in Financial and Insurance Services and 7.1% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania were:
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (7.3% compared to 8.7%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (30.8% compared to 29.7%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Mining (4.0% compared to 3.2%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (2.9% compared to 3.6%)
The total total imports by industry in the Northern Tasmania Region increased by $1,153 million between 2014/15 and 2019/20.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2014/15 and 2019/20 in the Northern Tasmania Region were for:
- Manufacturing (+$355 million)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+$168 million)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$149 million)
- Financial and Insurance Services (+$148 million)
