Dominant groups

Analysis of the resident workers individual income levels in the Northern Tasmania Region in 2016 compared to Tasmania shows that there was a similar proportion earning a high income (those earning $1,750 per week or more) as well as a higher proportion of low income persons (those earning less than $500 per week).

Overall, 11.1% of the resident workers earned a high income, and 21.6% earned a low income, compared with 12.5% and 20.3% respectively for Victoria.

The major differences between the weekly income of the resident workers in the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania were:

  • A smaller percentage of resident workers earned $2,000 - $2,999 (4.4% compared to 5.3%)
  • A larger percentage of resident workers earned $650 - $799 (13.0% compared to 12.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workers earned $1,500 - $1,749 (6.6% compared to 7.3%)
  • A larger percentage of resident workers earned $500 - $649 (10.8% compared to 10.2%)
